Washington – The reputation of the American F-16 fighter jet has suffered a major blow. On Wednesday, an F-16 fighter jet crashed in a desert area near Trona Airport in California. However, the pilot survived the crash and managed to eject safely.
The incident occurred at 10:45 AM
At approximately 10:45 AM local time on Wednesday, a US Air Force Thunderbird pilot was flying his aircraft within controlled airspace during a training mission when the aircraft crashed due to technical reasons. The aircraft burst into flames upon impact with the ground, but the pilot ejected in time and landed safely using his parachute.
Pilot sustained minor injuries
Following the F-16 fighter jet crash, the pilot sustained minor injuries and was immediately taken to a hospital in Ridgecrest for treatment. Officials stated that the fire department team arrived at the scene, treated the pilot, and transported him to the hospital.
Fire brigade’s immediate response at the crash site
According to San Bernardino County fire officials, the team initiated rescue operations immediately after the crash. However, no damage was reported to surrounding vegetation. The fire department appealed to local residents to stay away from the crash site.
Investigation underway, initial report reveals key details
The US Air Force has launched an investigation into the crash. According to officials, initial inspections after the incident revealed that the F-16 jet crashed near the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake. This area is known as a US Navy testing ground where military aircraft regularly conduct training exercises.
Five jets returned, one missing
Prior to the crash, six US Air Force Thunderbird jets were on a training mission. However, due to the crash of one jet, only five returned. The US Air Force has not yet provided any clear information on the cause of the plane crash, but a thorough investigation is underway.
